Spellerberg Projects is a nonprofit contemporary art center in downtown Lockhart, Texas. We offer affordable artist studio workspace at 103 S Main St, in the heart of the historic district.
We have three studio sizes:

Natural light fills the space throughout the day. A lockable door offers privacy and security. Second floor. 9.75 × 13.5 ft, 10.75 ft ceilings. Spacious enough for two artists to share, or ideal for a solo practice. Also suitable for an office.
Artist Studio — 80 sq ft, $350/month. Accessible ground-floor workspaces featuring a large continuous wall that’s great for making larger works. 8 × 10 ft, 10 ft ceilings. Spacious enough for two artists to share, or ideal for a solo practice.
Small Studio — 66 sq ft, $275/month. A focused, affordable space for artists who work at a more intimate scale. Perfect for an emerging artist on a budget who wants to continue their practice outside of university. Second floor. 6.5 × 9.75, 8.5 ft ceilings. Ideal for a solo practice.
Please inquire as to availability.
All studios include utilities, climate control, and internet with a month-to-month rental agreement and 24/7 access. Work sink and restroom access on the first floor. Street parking. Loading access via the back alley. While we welcome all media, please note that we can not support a kiln.
Studio artists work alongside painters, photographers, ceramicists, and mixed-media artists. Our studios are open to each other—you’ll see your neighbors at work, and conversation happens naturally. You’ll have access to a shared lounge area and occasional use of our larger flex space.
Studio artists participate in our annual Studio Show and are invited to join Lockhart Open Studios, San Marcos Studio Tour, and other community events throughout the year.
Interested? We’re looking for working artists with a commitment to their practice and we’d love to hear about yours. Studio tours are available by appointment. Studios will remain available until filled; after that, we will maintain a waitlist. Contact Marty Spellerberg via email: [email protected]
