ICOSA Collective and Spellerberg Projects are pleased to announce The Ocean Between Us (bein hai ben chung ta) by Loc Huynh at Spellerberg Projects Main St. Gallery in Lockhart, TX.

After the Fall of Saigon in 1975, the lives of many people were affected by the communist takeover of the capital of South Vietnam. Like many other families, my maternal grandparents sent their children to America for a better life. Also, like other families, they were separated during this tumultuous time of political unrest, with my grandmother staying in Saigon and my grandfather going to America to watch over their children. This exhibition is an investigation into the bond between my maternal grandparents and how the geographic distance between them never wavered their love for one another. Through the medium of painting, sculpture, and installation, I explore how geography and political culture help shape and influence their relationship.
